Cyprus, an island at the easternmost frontier of Europe, possesses a deep history, reaching back to 12,000 BC. To celebrate this shared heritage, as part of Cyprus’ presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Deputy Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Cyprus and the University of Cyprus have joined forces with the Louvre Museum, which hosts of the world’s largest collections of Cypriot antiquities.
The works on loan from the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus, such as the picrolite figurines and terracotta votive statues, interact with each other and with those of the Louvre Museum. Digital experiences extend this dialogue through the integration of Cyprus’ intangible heritage, including music and poetry, bringing ancient people to life.
