Discover Cyprus’ Cultural Vision for 2026
The Cultural Programme of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU 2026 is designed to showcase the Cypriot contemporary artistic scene alongside the rich cultural heritage of the island, and to highlight Cyprus as a bridge between Europe, the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.
Experience Culture Across Cyprus and Europe
The programme will focus on the unity and the continuation that results from the harmonious connection of the unique cultural identities and traditions of the E.U. Member States, thus reminding, enriching and empowering the bonds that unite Cyprus with the E.U. Member States which are all pieces that form a marvellous mosaic.
For the implementation of the programme the Deputy Ministry of Culture of Cyprus has collaborated with a strong network of partners and has included a remarkable number of artists from all fields of artistic creation.

The Worlds of Cyprus
More than sixty works by Cypriot artists are presented in the spaces of the Filoxenia Conference Centre within the context of the exhibition “The Worlds of Cyprus”, presented within the framework of the Cultural Programme of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026.
WEATHER
In the framework of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU 2026, the exhibition of the artistic intervention “WEATHER”, designed and curated by the internationally acclaimed Cypriot designer Michael Anastassiades, has been officially inaugurated.
Nicosia International Airport
Exhibition entitled “Nicosia International Airport” by Andros Efstathiou, featuring photographs from the abandoned Nicosia (Lefkosia) International Airport. (closed to the public)
Agropoetics: Soils/Bodies
Contemporary Cypriot art exhibition, curated by Dr Elena Parpa, titled “Agropoetics: Soils/Bodies”, featuring works by more than 40 artists. Exhibition displayed until 30 June 2026.

The exhibition Past, Passing or To Come is inspired by W. B. Yeats’s poem Sailing to Byzantium and explores the transition from the material to the spiritual world, as reflected in the search for immortality through art and memory.

Archaeological exhibition entitled ‘Cyprus and Italy: shared cultural identities’, featuring 150 antiquities from Cyprus, Sardinia and Sicily, spanning 11.000 years of history.

Land of Darkness/ Land of Light
Inspired by Franz Schubert’s musical composition “Death and the Maiden” performed live by the Fusionia string quartet, the work presents, through the body stories, our personal and collective encounter with life and death.

The experimental temporary exhibition entitled “Sector 2: Nicosia” narrates, through an innovative museological approach, the story of the Green Line, which splits the last divided capital of Europe
George Pol. Georghiou – Timeless Cyprus
The “George Pol. Georghiou – Timeless Cyprus” exhibition was first held at the A.G. Leventis Gallery in Lefkosia in 2022 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the artist’s death. Exhibition displayed until 29 March 2026.
Cinematic Horizons - New Cypriot Cinema
As part of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026 and under the auspices of the Embassy of Cyprus in Belgrade, the event “Cinematic Horizons – New Cypriot Cinema”, taking place on 12 and 13 March 2026 at the Yugoslav Film Archive in Belgrade, seeks to present contemporary Cypriot cinema for the first time in Serbia, showcasing award-winning feature films by talented Cypriot filmmakers.
Toyful Music Festival Spin-Off Concert
Toyful Music Ensemble invites us to rethink the relationship between music and play in a unique concert at the Medieval Hall Kastelliotissa.
Artistic practices in museums and the retelling of museum narratives
The colloquium explores how contemporary artistic practices may (re)examine colonial and post-colonial museum practices. It also aims to strengthen the dialogue between Sweden and Cyprus regarding museums and their collections.

The play focuses on the encounter between Cypriots and Swedes before, during and after the completion of the Expedition.
Alexia "CYPRIOTE"
Alexia presents ‘Cypriote’ — a Live Arts thematic music performance that celebrates and enhances Cyprus’ cultural heritage and contemporary cultural expression. Drawing from a curated selection of songs and narratives from her international, Greek, and traditional repertoires, ‘Cypriote’ reflects the island’s rich and multilayered cultural identity.
Beauty in question
According to ancient Greek mythology, Aphrodite, the goddess of beauty, emerged from the foam of the sea in the southwestern coast of Cyprus. This myth highlights the unique historical and morphological identity of the island. Nature provides the fertile ground for the birth of an idea and the identification of a place. In essence, on the level of interpretation, it consists of a reflection on beauty as an idea.
Freud’s Last Session
Award-winning American author Mark St. Germain, with a particular penchant for historical fiction, imagines a first and last meeting between legendary author C.S. Lewis and one of the most important intellectuals of the 20th century, Sigmund Freud, in 1939.
LOST SPACES – Inside the Nicosia Buffer Zone
Lefkosia (Nicosia), the capital of Cyprus, is the last divided city in Europe. The city’s Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities were first separated by the British in 1956.

The visual art exhibition Palimpsest Worlds part of the Cultural Programme of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union, serves as an artistic metaphor for European identity itself: a coexistence of many voices, histories and cultures sharing a common present.
When the Swallows Fall Silent / Milk – Rose
When the Swallows Fall Silent explores the struggle of a neighbourhood in Old Nicosia to preserve its identity amid rapid modernization, focusing on the historic Faneromeni School and the iconic “Matthaios” restaurant.
Milk – Rose follows an elderly refugee from the occupied village of Vatili who, seeking to escape the loneliness of his everyday life, embarks on a personal journey of liberation.

At the Crossroads of the Ancient World: Cyprus in the Hellenistic Age
The exact political and social organisation of Cyprus from the Classical to the Hellenistic period remain largely unknown. However, the existing philological, epigraphic and archaeological material allow us to reach some safe conclusions.

“Chronoplous” is a musical performance that explores time, memory, and the cultural identity of Cyprus through a creative dialogue between tradition and contemporary orchestration.
Nature Unbound: Between Remedy and Poison
The group exhibition of contemporary art Nature Unbound: Between Remedy and Poison (Ályti Phýsi: Fármako kai Farmáki) is presented in Armenia as part of the Cultural Programme of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026, in collaboration with the Embassy of Cyprus in Armenia.
Crafting Nature
The exhibition Crafting Nature highlights the artistic dynamism of Cypriot creators who draw on Nature as their primary source of inspiration, shaping handmade works through its materials and principles.
Cyprus: Between Continents, Within Time
The event is a multidisciplinary artistic performance combining live music, audiovisual material, and spoken word, presented as part of the cultural programme of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Drawing inspiration from the history, mythology, and contemporary cultural identity of Cyprus, the performance approaches these themes through a modern, integrated artistic perspective.

Krama Brass Band: Tradition Reimagined
Krama Brass Band is an emerging band established in 2023 by two Cypriot musicians, Andreas Theocharous and Nicholas Georgiou.

Anna Avramidou in Jakarta
Cypriot pianist, Anna Avramidou, in her first concert in Asia. She will perform works from the classical European repertoire, including works by Haydn, Schuman, Debussy, as well as the Cypriot composer and pianist, Nicolas Economou.
