A theatrical chronicle that records the “fascinating” life of the legendary visual artist, poised between madness and triumph. Irene Marantei narrates his “novelistic,” captivating yet bitter, enigmatic life, while Antreas Tilemachou, through mesmerizing directorial paths, follows the titan of sculpture through all the major “milestones” of his journey — from 1876, when, returning from Munich to Athens, he opened his own studio and began working on his most famous sculpture of the classical period, ”The Sleeping Maiden” — which remains the most admirable sculptural work of modern Athens — up until 1930, when he returned once again to Athens after his forced “exile” on Tinos.
Tilemachou himself, through his performance, also embodies Yannoulis Chalepas constant struggle against discouragement and spiritual abuse, madness and despair.
It has been written that Yannoulis Chalepas was the “Sculptor of the Soul,” the “Poet of Marble.” He was called “Saint Chalepas,” the “Artist of Light.”
