Within the framework of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Buenos Aires is organizing its flagship cultural event, using the universal language of music as a bridge for dialogue between Cyprus and Argentina, Europe and Latin America.

Buenos Aires is one of the most important cultural metropolises of Latin America, with vibrant artistic activity and a deep historical connection with Europe. The longstanding and strong presence of European communities in Argentina—Italians, French, Spaniards, Portuguese, Greeks, and others—enhances the visibility and resonance of European countries and their diplomatic missions, an element we aim to highlight during the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Within this context, the title of the concert, “Soñando lo Europeo”, expresses the vision of “dreaming European,” beyond our national agendas, imagining a shared European space of creation, exchange, and coexistence. Music, polyphony, and multilingualism serve as means to transcend borders, proposing a unified and inclusive European horizon that engages openly in dialogue with other countries and continents around the world.

In this spirit, the Embassy of Cyprus presents a concert by Cypriot singer and composer Vakia Stavrou, accompanied by musicians Manolis Neophytou (piano) and Stelios Pitta (cello). The artist is distinguished by her unique ability to interpret songs in various European languages with authenticity and expressive ease, reflecting Europe’s multicultural character. Her voice has been described by the international press as a “voice without borders” (Die Welt), while Radio France (B. Dicale) refers to her as “a tremendous voice that captivates the listener with its beauty, an artist of unique finesse.” At the same time, her repertoire always includes her own compositions as well as iconic and beloved Argentine tangos, which in this concert will create a meaningful dialogue with the local audience. The program will also include songs by Cypriot composers, with the aim of showcasing Cypriot creativity and tradition.

The concert will take place at the Palacio Libertad cultural center in Buenos Aires on May 12 and aspires to be a high-level artistic experience of European culture, Cypriot artistic creation and talent, and the enduring cultural affinity between Europe and Argentina.
