More than sixty works by Cypriot artists are presented in the spaces of the Filoxenia Conference Centre within the context of the exhibition “The Worlds of Cyprus”, presented within the framework of the Cultural Programme of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026.

In the exhibition, curated by Dr Christina Lambrou, works originating from different time periods, artistic contexts, and fields of interest are grouped into thematic compositions that focus on various aspects of the multiple “worlds of Cyprus,” collectively creating a polyphonic visual narrative. Through chronological and stylistic juxtapositions, the compositions invite a play of associations, emotions, and multiple readings, opening up new interpretive pathways: works from the early twentieth century converse with later and contemporary practices, challenging historical linearity and shedding light on deeper affinities or tensions.

Through the curatorial approach, multiple layers of representation are revealed—of landscape, bodies, human relationships, and the social and historical forces that shaped artistic production on the island. Among the earliest depictions of life in Cyprus by local artists, three drawings by Adamantios Diamantis (1900–1994), drawn from his long-term documentation of scenes from the Cypriot countryside, formed the basis for the composition of his work “The World of Cyprus” (1967–1972). The exhibition title references this work however, the use of the plural underscores the decisive importance of multiplicity and interaction.

In each section, as presented throughout the Conference Centre areas, the works are arranged so as to engage in dialogue with one another and to be activated through the subjectivity of each viewer’s gaze. The compositions function as open fields of meaning, where memories, social shifts, political tensions, and artistic inquiries intertwine, forming a dynamic and multi-layered narrative of Cyprus and its worlds.
