The performance “The King of the Upside-Down World” presents a selection of poems by Yiorgos Kalozois, composed by Maria Zannetou, directed by Irini Andreou, and featuring the participation of two distinguished musicians. It is a stage composition of poetry, music, and theatrical action, characterized by a timeless sensitivity. Through the poet’s words, the deepest human experiences emerge — the search for identity, the meaning of homeland, memory, trauma, and the power of hope and resilience.
Kalozois’ poetry transcends the boundaries of place, expressing a sense of marginalization, the need for freedom, and the pursuit of self-realization in a world full of contradictions and challenges. The musical setting of the poems, which functions as a vivid narrative medium, is performed by the voice of Pavlina Konstantopoulou and pianist Rami Sarieddine. Through this musical interpretation, the audience is invited on a journey that intertwines the contemporary artistic voice of Cyprus with its historical legacy.
