As part of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026 and under the auspices of the Embassy of Cyprus in Belgrade, the event “Cinematic Horizons – New Cypriot Cinema”, taking place on 12 and 13 March 2026 at the Yugoslav Film Archive in Belgrade, seeks to present contemporary Cypriot cinema for the first time in Serbia, showcasing award-winning feature films by talented Cypriot filmmakers. 

Through the compelling medium of cinema, the event aspires to highlight the island’s contemporary artistic identity and bring to the forefront of Serbian audiences the highly relevant and artistically captivating works of Cypriot cinema, strengthening Cyprus’s cultural footprint in Serbia and Europe. 

In addition to the screenings, the program will include roundtable discussions as well as live Q&A sessions with distinguished Cypriot directors and producers, who will analyze current cinematic trends, discuss the international acclaim of Cypriot cinema in recent years, and talk about the worldwide successes of their films. 

The overarching aim of the festival is to deepen the cultural bonds between Cyprus and Serbia, highlight the contemporary artistic and cultural aspects of Cyprus to a wider audience and the media, and foster new avenues for artistic collaboration and cultural exchange. 

The event is carried out within the framework of the Programme “Events at Embassies of the Republic of Cyprus abroad”, in the context of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU 2026.
