“Encounters” is a documentary theater performance based on the finds, photographs and writings of the Swedish Cyprus Expedition (1927-31), historical archives and sources from the families of the Cypriots and Swedes directly associated with the Expedition.

The play focuses on the encounter between Cypriots and Swedes before, during and after the completion of the Expedition. Known and unseen historical figures will “meet” in a new performance at the premises of the historic state museum in Stockholm, which exhibits a large number of the Expedition finds, including half of the collection of the Agia Irini sanctuary.

The production is part of the project “Performing Collections Performing Archives” by Dr. Ellada Evangelou and Dr. Despo Pasia and is carried out in collaboration with the Department of Antiquities.

The performance on April 20 is by invitation only, for diplomatic missions and guests of the Cyprus Presidency.
